The day started with the announcement by cell phone of the birth of Natalie Jane, Jane's brand new granddaughter. With that news, three of us got up early, and motored south in very calm wind and seas. One person retired to the perceived privacy of the v-berth (see photo) and continued his interrupted night's sleep. Nancy played human autopilot and steered almost all day. The fog finally lifted in the early afternoon, and the wind began to fill in as we approached Monterey Bay wing on wing at around 4 p.m. A very relaxing sail past Ano Nuevo, Pigeon Point Lighthouse and the roller coaster in Santa Cruz. The biggest piece excitement was entering the harbor here through rolling waves, breaking on the shore nearby. Quite an interesting marina entrance, I wouldn't want to try it in heavier wind and waves.
The harbor was nearly full with a cruise-in from Vallejo, and we were rafted up on an end tie. The boat we are tied to is a live aboard and has a full time intoxicating smoke emanating from it's interior. Santa Cruz. We tied up to them, went out for dinner and a movie, Burn After Reading.
The Westerbeke diesel has been leaking a very small amount of coolant from a soft hose. Tom brought some automotive hose yesterday that makes the same turn and is the right size, but we now have a date with an engine mechanic tomorrow morning at 9 to change the hose for us. We'll spend the day here in Santa Cruz before heading down to Moss Landing and Elkhorn Slough.
