Pearl of Oakland heads South

Pearl of Oakland is a 1982 Tartan 37 centerboard sailboat, owned by Sharon Albert and Tom Landecker of Oakland, CA. She is berthed in Berkeley, where I (Sharon) have spent the past two years upgrading and making preparations for a cruise.

The plan is sail out the Golden Gate on Saturday, September 27th, heading south for San Diego. Pearl should arrive in San Diego by the end of October. The return plans are open, and might include a couple of weeks along the Baja coast of Mexico, visitng the baby grey whales, or Pearl might start heading north again before the end of 2008.

The trip is divided into three separate legs:

  • Berkeley to Monterey, with stops in Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz and Moss Landing.
  • Monterey to LA (Marina del Rey) via Morro Bay, Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands.
  • LA to San Diego via Catalina.
