Pearl is tied up in Oceanside Harbor, everything that could be removed from her decks is snug below and locked, her sheets and halyards are all secure and ship shape, she'll sit alone in a guest berth behind the Jolly Roger restaurant for the next three weeks. Ahhhhhhh, I'm sad to leave her, but it's time. It took us nearly a full day to strip the topsides, clean everything inside and out, and it made me worried that I might have forgotten something. The Oceanside guest berths are in public areas, not behind locked gates, and she is sitting right behind a major restaurant, looking quite salty and appealing, at least in my opinion.
We had lunch today with my mother and brother in Oceanside, then headed over to the San Diego Yacht Club to get another look at how the other half lives. Dennis Connor's trophies are plastered around, it's a beautiful facility, and there were some drop dead gorgeous boats, along with quite a few boats ready to depart for the Baja Ha Ha tomorrow.
I'm writing from the San Diego airport, excited about getting back home, but quite sad about the end of a wonderful month. I can't think of anything that wasn't great about this water tour of California, the sailing, the touring, having my friends on the boat as crew, living on the boat........time to shift gears........
Jiggety jig.
