Sea Lions

I'm sitting in the cockpit of the boat at 10:15, it's hard to think because sea lions are bellowing all around me. Directly across the slipway they've taken over a finger pier, and five of them are defending their rapidly sinking territory against all newcomers. I imagine the defense would include the owners of the boats on either side, who would hate to see what's happening next to their property. All around the marina, similar scenarios are audible, and they're protected mammals.

Monterey is of course beautiful, the fog had come in this afternoon as we left Moss Landing, and we used radar and GPS to find our way along the buoys and into the bay. Just as we got to Point Lobos on the Monterey Peninsula, the fog lifted, and Monterey sat in brilliant clear sunshine. We checked in to the marina, relaxed for a bit, then watched some of the vice presidential debate in a bar before heading out to a movie. It's raining very lightly now, the cockpit sunscreen is serving as a mist screen. Pearl is sitting in a 40 foot slip, and Eli, the dinghy, is between the boat the pier. While I'm writing this, a sea lion is swimming and blowing loudly......oh @#$$#^ they're up on the pier two slips down!!! That's it, I'm up all night!!! Where's the boat hook?
